Hampton Union Currents: Practicing Wiccan says Harry Potter series is not about religion
The opening of the new Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, today will bring both avid fans and staunch critics to the forefront. Some will even decry the series as one that teaches children the art of witchcraft, while others will compare the characters and their practices with real people who practice Wicca.

Potter is turning our kids into Wiccans!
LOL
According to preacher Steve Wohlberg’s book Hour of the Witch: Harry Potter, Wicca Witchcraft, and the Bible, the Harry Potter series is not actually a well-crafted, coming of age story about a kid who happens to have magical powers. Instead, the books tell the tale of “evil, versus greater evil…not really good versus evil.” Not only that, but Harry himself is a terrible role model for kids – he “lies a lot…breaks the law, has temper tantrums, he is studying the occult, he is practicing spells.” So, apart from the whole witch thing, this makes him different from your typical high school sophomore how?
Wohlberg also believes that parents who don’t accept that JK Rowling’s books are making their children more open to becoming part of what he calls “the rise in the pagan Wicca religion” are fooling themselves. So what say you, Potterites? In 20 years is everyone who Rowling is cleverly brainwashing going to wake up and worship nature? Be honest – you’re a little Wiccan yourself already, aren’t you?

The Power of Witches
Even after the kids take off their Halloween costumes, witches remain among us
Debby Reis (The Peak)
BURNABY, B.C. (CUP) Back in high school, like many other teenaged girls, I became interested in the occult. Witches in particular held interest for me. But the image of a witch in my head went beyond that of the fairy tale hag.
My witch had a mystical beauty about her, and more importantly, she had power. I didnt quite understand this power, but I knew I wanted it. I learned to read palms and tarot cards, and whenever I looked at someones hand, I felt a little bit of that power when their lines and fingertips told me about who they were.

Witchcraft trends need to be faced, says author
(SH) – The witches ball included the midnight spinning of the “Wheel of the Year” and a chance to gaze into the “Fire of Transformation” before the faithful were guided into the “Underworld and our Ritual Space.”
The Samhain celebration last weekend in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., also included deejay music, dancing, door prizes and fun for the children.
“No photos at rituals! Some of us are still closeted,” said the online invitation from the MoonPath Chapter of the Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans. “Perhaps it’s time to come out of the broom closet?”
There were plenty of signs this Halloween season that more witches and wizards are doing precisely that.
Are there SpiralScouts circles in your area offering pagan parents an alternative to the rigid morality of the Boy Scouts? Have teenagers formed reading clubs at school to dig into popular books like “Wild Girls: The Path of the Young Goddess” and “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Wicca and Witchcraft”?

Down with the devil
FLINT – Halloween celebrations go back centuries, and they’re bigger now in the United States than ever before.
But don’t expect moms such as Valerie Fontan of Flushing Township or Anne Bundy of Mt. Morris Township to join in.
Fontan, 37, takes her three young children out of school on Halloween so they are not subjected to Halloween parties. Bundy, 42, a mother of five, home-schools her four school-age children and doesn’t let them participate in Halloween activities.

Remote Control Device ‘Controls’ Humans
“We wield remote controls to turn things on and off, make them advance, make them halt. Ground-bound pilots use remotes to fly drone airplanes, soldiers to maneuver battlefield robots.
But manipulating humans?
Prepare to be remotely controlled. I was.
Just imagine being rendered the rough equivalent of a radio-controlled toy car. ”

Wiccans: ‘Harm None’: A witch’s story of volunteering with the Red Cross in Louisiana
“Lofgren and her partner, Cynthia Shea of Niantic, had just returned from Slidell, La., where they spent two weeks with the Red Cross aiding hurricane victims. For Lofgren, her experience was a manifestation of her spiritual beliefs as a Wiccan.”
